The Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve in Haines, AK was created to protect and perpetuate one of the world's largest concentrations of Bald Eagles and their critical habitat.
Visitors can enjoy activities such as eagle watching, fishing, river rafting/kayaking, and exploring the 2-mile riverside trail. The preserve offers accessible facilities including parking and viewing platforms.
The Preserve consists of 48,000 acres along the Chilkat, Kleheni, and Tsirku Rivers. Stay within designated areas to minimize stress on the eagles during their roosting and feeding times.
The largest eagle congregation occurs in late fall and early winter. The Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation's mission is to provide outdoor recreation opportunities while conserving natural resources for public use and enjoyment.
