Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement

Gaston County Animal Care & Enforcement was established to provide for the health and safety of citizens and protect them from animals. Their mission is to enhance citizen safety and ensure proper animal care.

The division enforces North Carolina General Statutes and Gaston County Ordinances, impounding and caring for stray, diseased, or unwanted animals at their shelter. They offer adoption programs to find new homes for pets.

Animal Care & Enforcement also investigates animal-related complaints such as nuisance issues, leash law violations, and cases of cruelty or abuse. They are committed to professionalism and responsible pet ownership.

The department conducts educational seminars and workshops, sometimes in partnership with Gaston College, recognized nationally for their program excellence. They use lethal injection as the preferred method of euthanasia.
