Friends of Felines' Rescue Center

We perform a Comprehensive Physical Exam on every cat conducted by our veterinarian before they are made available for adoption. This exam ensures they are healthy and ready for their new homes.

We administer Core Vaccinations, including Rabies, Distemper, and Parvo, as part of our comprehensive medical care for cats during their stay. These vaccinations are essential for protecting their health and preparing them for adoption into loving homes. All cats receive 2-3 distemper vaccinations while in our care.

We conduct Heartworm Testing for all cats upon arrival and provide Heartworm Prevention as part of our medical care. While heartworm is less common in cats than in dogs, we take proactive measures to ensure their health and safety.

We prioritize Flea & Tick Prevention for all cats in our care. Upon arrival, cats receive Capstar® treatment to eliminate existing fleas, and we apply flea prevention every 4 weeks. We also educate adopters on the importance of lifetime flea prevention to protect their pets.

While we don’t provide direct counseling through our rescue center, we offer Nutritional Counseling as part of our adoption materials, including guidelines on feeding practices such as free-feeding dry food, wet food schedules, and avoiding lactose (e.g., cow’s milk). We emphasize balanced nutrition for all life stages, from kittens to geriatric cats.

We provide Parasite Deworming for all cats during their stay, including 3-5 deworming treatments and 7 days of Panacur (a broad dewormer). Additionally, we offer specific treatment for tapeworms to ensure our cats are parasite-free before adoption.

We provide Spay & Neuter Surgery for all cats in our care as part of our adoption program. This service is performed by qualified licensed veterinarians to reduce overpopulation and ensure the health of our feline residents. All spay/neuter procedures are conducted with the highest standards of care, and we partner with HumaneOhio to expand access to these critical services in Defiance and surrounding counties.

We offer Medical Grooming services, including Sanitary Shave for longhaired cats, free of charge to our FFRC adopters. This service helps maintain their hygiene and comfort, especially in areas that may be difficult for them to groom themselves.

We prioritize Quality of Life Assessment for all cats in our care, ensuring they receive superior medical treatment and a healthy environment. This includes monitoring their health, behavior, and well-being during their stay to prepare them for adoption into loving homes.
