About This Clinic

The Westerly Animal Shelter is a state-of-the-art premier shelter adoption facility and regional outreach center located in Westerly, RI. Our mission is to promote the health and welfare of lost or abandoned pets.

We are responsible for pet impoundment, adoption services, safe keeping during emergencies, and education within the community. The shelter provides a clean, safe, loving, and healthy environment for animals until they find their forever homes.

The Westerly Animal Shelter offers comprehensive programs including volunteer opportunities, microchip/wellness clinics, and an annual rabies clinic. All pets leaving our facility are spayed/neutered and current on vaccinations through our onsite vet care program.

Wellness & Preventive Care

Comprehensive Physical Exam

Available

We provide annual physical exams for pets to assess overall health, including vaccinations and diagnostic tests like heartworm screening. These exams are essential for early detection of potential health issues and maintaining your pet's well-being.

Core Vaccinations (Rabies, Distemper, Parvo)

Available

We administer core vaccinations, including rabies, distemper, and parvo, to protect pets from common and serious diseases. These vaccinations are a critical part of our wellness clinic services and are required for all pets leaving our shelter.

Heartworm Testing & Prevention

Available

We offer heartworm testing and prevention services as part of our annual physical exams. Early detection and prevention are key to protecting your pet from this potentially fatal disease.

Microchipping & Registration

Available

We provide microchipping services for pets as part of our wellness clinics and outreach programs. Microchipping increases the chances of pets being returned if they are lost, and we also assist with registration.

Diagnostics & Lab Work

In-House Bloodwork (CBC & Chemistry Panels)

Available

We conduct in-house bloodwork, including Complete Blood Count (CBC) and chemistry panels, to diagnose diseases like heartworm and feline leukemia. These tests are part of our comprehensive wellness exams.

Surgery

Spay & Neuter Surgery

Available

We perform spay and neuter surgeries for all pets in our shelter and as part of our wellness clinic services. These procedures are essential for preventing overpopulation and improving the health of your pets.
