Welcome to the Highland County Humane Society! We are a private non-profit organization dedicated to promoting health safety welfare compassionate care and protection of animals throughout Highland County Virginia.

We are volunteer run and foster based. Our services include rescuing animals, providing foster homes, and facilitating adoptions for pets in need.

HCHS is unique because it operates entirely on the dedication of volunteers and a home-based rescue model.

While we primarily operate as a foster-based rescue, we collaborate with local veterinary partners to provide Emergency Stabilization for animals in crisis. Our volunteers assist in transporting pets to nearby clinics for urgent care when needed, ensuring they receive immediate attention.

Hospitalization & 24-Hour Monitoring

Available

We facilitate Hospitalization & 24-Hour Monitoring for pets in our care or those requiring extended veterinary attention. Through partnerships with local clinics, we ensure pets receive the continuous care they need during recovery, whether for post-surgical monitoring or chronic conditions.
